What We Do > Fundraising > Flags at the Proms |
Each spring, as the Toronto Symphony's season approaches its close, the orchestra celebrates and pokes fun at the glories of the British Empire with its Last Night of the Proms, a series of concerts based on a long-standing end-of-summer tradition at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England. The concerts generate packed halls and great merriment.
An important part of the festivities is the enthusiastic waving of flags during the sing-a-long portion of the concert, and Toronto Symphony volunteers have a key role to play. We make available to members of the audience flags of various nationalities, representing Toronto's multicultural make-up, in return for a $5 donation to the TSVC. The Maestro supports our efforts with a vigorous endorsement of our flag initiative and its support of the TSO programs.
This is an important fund-raising initiative and it is also a lot of fun.
The Last Night concerts are on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 8 pm and Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 2 pm and 8 pm. If you are interested in helping out, please contact tsvc@tso.ca.
